DPoint Technologies
DPoint Technologies (www.dpoint.ca) develops and supplies heat and humidity exchangers for Fuel Cell Systems and Energy Recovery Ventilators (ERV). Humidifiers are critical to fuel cell performance and reliability, and except for the stack, are currently one of the most expensive components in the fuel cell engine.
More recently, DPoint has adapted its technology for use in ERV systems. An ERV is a system component that transfers heat and humidity between the intake and exhaust in a residential or commercial building’s ventilation system. The key component of an ERV system is the core, which exchanges the moisture (latent energy) and heat (sensible energy). By transferring both heat and moisture from incoming air to the exhaust air during the summer, an ERV system can dramatically reduce the load on an air conditioning system. During the winter, the same core will transfer heat and moisture from the exhaust air into the incoming stream to reduce the load on a furnace and heating system. This conserves energy and saves the user money.
Prior to the adaptation of DPoint’s heat and humidity exchanger technology, ERV cores were not meeting building industry targets for energy efficiency and cost-savings. DPoint’s patented technology is designed to be easily manufactured using low-cost materials. This new ERV core design can be produced to fit virtually any size system, provides improved performance and is competitively priced for the heating, ventilation and air conditioning (HVAC) industry.
